Following Glenn Maxwell and Sana Mir, the latest international cricketer to take a break from the game is Australia’s Sophie Molineux. The brilliant all-rounder of Australian Women Cricket Team has announced her break from the game for an unspecified time. It means that the all-rounder will miss the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League fixture against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday.

Before her, Glenn Maxwell, Will Pucovski and Nic Maddinson are the other Australian cricketers in the recent past to take the break from the game. She cited Mental Health issues as the reason behind her break from cricket. Cricket Australia immediately accepted the request and assigned a staff to deal with the issues of the all-rounder.

Molineux has played all 10 games of the Renegades WBBL games so far this season, as she was pushing to return to the national side ahead of the T20 World Cup. But she has withdrawn from Saturday’s Melbourne derby against the Stars at Eastern Oval in Ballarat in order to focus on her mental health and wellbeing.

We are proud of the brave decision made by Sophie Molineux –

Speaking on the matter, Australia Women’s Team Doctor Pip Inge stated her concern on the growing issue of mental health and said that the wellbeing of cricketers was always the priority for the Board and the players were brave enough to make their issues public.

“Sophie has made the decision to take a break from cricket and we are providing her with the support she needs,” Australia Women’s Team Doctor Pip Inge said. “The welfare of our players is a priority and we are proud of the brave decision by Sophie to step away from the game.”

Melbourne Renegades have replaced Sophie Molineux with Makinley Blows in their squad for their next game against Melbourne Stars on Saturday. Surely, the latest rise of concern for the Australian players will make Cricket Australia bring new measures in order to counter the issue.

I just love what I script. Over the years, Cricket has been my passion and crisping articles on it gives me an immense pleasure...Cheers...!!!
